LA Firefighter Jaime Moore is the new chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), officially confirmed by the LA City Council on November 14, 2025. Moore, a 30-year veteran of the department, previously served as the commander of operations for the LAFD’s Valley Bureau. He is the second Latino to hold the position and the first Spanish-speaking chief.

 

  • Confirmation: The LA City Council unanimously (12-0) confirmed Moore’s appointment on Friday, November 14, 2025. 
  • Prior role: Before becoming chief, he was the commander of operations for the Valley Bureau, overseeing response to emergencies across 39 fire stations.
  • Experience: Moore has over three decades of experience with the LAFD, starting as a firefighter in 1995.
  • Historical significance: He is the second Latino chief and the first Spanish-speaking chief in the department’s history.
  • Strategic priorities: His mission includes strengthening community connections, enhancing preparedness, and preparing the department for major events like the World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
  • Replacement: He succeeds Interim Chief Ronnie Villanueva, who filled the role after the dismissal of former Chief Kristin Crowley.
