If you’re interested in how 911 calls get handled and what alternatives are possible, join Councilmember Blumenfield on November 19 at 7pm for “Reimagining Public Safety: Unarmed Options,” a virtual Presentation and Q&A featuring Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner and former CAHOOTS employee Ben Climer, sharing how the unarmed responder model known as CAHOOTS works in Eugene, OR.
Please be sure to RSVP Today.
As the City looks towards creating an unarmed responders program for certain types of nonviolent calls in Los Angeles, it’s important to study existing models. If you’ve wanted to ask a question about how their team works and what a similar program may look like in LA, now is your chance.
Back in June, Blumenfield co-authored the Reimagine Public Safety motion, which directed City Departments to explore creating an unarmed response model based off of the CAHOOTS model, which has operated for 31 years as one of the most successful unarmed crisis programs in the nation.
