Spring Clean 2017

The Winnetka Neighborhood Council reached out and empowered stakeholders for civic engagement and weighed in on community issues in 2017. In 2018 we will continue our focus on building community.

In 2017 to foster civic engagement we:

  • Organized the Spring Clean in April where more than 60 volunteers and Board Members cleaned up the area surrounding the Winnetka Recreation Center.
  • Sponsored Councilmember Blumenfield’s Community Bike Ride bringing the community together in healthy exercise.
  • Provided news about our meetings and events on our user friendly website, sent out email newsletters several times a months to keep stakeholders updated and fostered community on Facebook. Join our conversation: https://www.facebook.com/winnetkanc and invite your friends to join us on Facebook and with our newsletter too.

We heard from stakeholders and represented them on community issues:

  • The Planning and Land Use Committee carefully reviewed a proposal for 160 units in three stories at 7111 N. Winnetka and recommended against it as stakeholders were overwhelmingly concerned that the project was too large for the area.
  • Heard a presentation on the LAX Landside Access Modernization Program expansion project and agreed to support it.
  • Issued Community Impact Statements on a pending issue with City Council against using Measure M monies for the City budget gap.
  • Heard an updated presentation on the Westfield Promenade and wrote a letter of support.
  • Worked with Councilmember Blumenfield to rapidly issue a letter of support for a local Amazon Headquarters.

We also helped numerous stakeholders on how to work with the City to address traffic, parking, and other issues.

In 2018 we are looking to do some new and innovative community outreach events to meet even more new stakeholders and get them involved in the community. Join us!
