Position Description
BACKGROUND
The Youth Representative should be interested in working to make a difference in our City of Los Angeles, and in the Community of Winnetka. The Candidate should have a keen interest in the City of Los Angeles, including but not limited to its city services, budget, and its political structure and makeup.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The Youth Representative must be a minimum of 16 years old, and up to 18 years old.
- The Youth Representative must reside within the boundaries of Winnetka (within the ZIP Code 91306) or attend school or be a member of an organization within Winnetka.
- The Youth Representative must be willing to serve at least one full term of office. The term of office is (up to) 1 year within the election cycle of the Council (currently April 1 to March 31). The Candidate can be reappointed for additional terms of office up to age 18.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Youth Representative are to attend monthly meetings of the Council (currently held every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Winnetka Convention Center/Bowl), and additional Council meetings as required.
The Youth Representative is also a member of the Youth Committee and as such will be expected to attend monthly Youth Committee meetings (currently held if needed once a month on the last Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm).
The duties of the Youth Representative include representing the youth point of view in the deliberations of the Council, and voting on the items that come before the Council. Although the Youth Representative can speak on Council budget and money issues, due to their age, they cannot vote on actual expenditures of the Council.
