At our May 2017 meeting we heard a presentation from LAX on their Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP). $5.5 billion program to:

  • Relieve traffic congestion
  • Create new convenient locations for passenger pick up and drop off as well as parking outside the central terminal area
  • Give passengers a fast and reliabel way to get to their flights
  • Reduce vehicle emissions

The project would include a consolidated rental car facility near the 405, two multi-story parking lots with over 8,000 spaces each, and an automated people mover.

The Board and stakeholders had a lively discussion and confirmed that the theme restaurant and original tower would not be removed and that the project would not be paid for by the taxpayer, but by airport users. Rental companies, concessionaires and airlines would be paying for the improvements and some funding would come through bonds.

The Board voted to support the program and send a letter.
